Our Mission

La Familia Senior/Community Center's mission is to provide services for our members, their families and other groups through proper nutrition, health screening of free blood sugar and blood pressure checks and education, American Red Cross Good Neighbor Nutrition Program meals, Sedgwick County Department on Aging diabetes review classes, K-State Extension Office nutrition classes, housing referral, assistance with social services, legal service referral, educational presentations, and companies' recreational activities and advocacy.

Acting as a stable force in Wichita's Hispanic community, La Familia Senior/Community Center (LFSCC) is in constant use by other community organizations for meetings, special activities and programs. The center is ideally situated next to Woodland Park. It is a lovely meeting place for families to gather for weddings, baptisms, birthday parties, baby showers, and dances.

The primary areas which LFSCC serves are North Broadway Street to Amidon Street and 13th Street to 29th Street North. These are the transportation boundaries to and from LFSCC. This area has been consistently low income with a high percentage of female head of households and a large number of residents who have not completed basic education.

Services and Activities

The services and activities of LFSCC have been contributing to the special needs of the community since 1989. What makes La Familia unique is that it is the only place in Wichita that plans its services and activities around the needs of Spanish speaking persons in the Wichita community. Services offered by bilingual and bicultural staff include:

  • Wellness Screening Clinic

  • Assistance with applying for social services

  • K-State research and extension classes

  • Sedgwick County nutrition classes

  • American Red Cross Good Neighbor Nutrition Program meal

  • Exercise classes

  • Thursday bingo

  • Recreational activities
